Editorial Guidelines

Last updated: October 10, 2026

These editorial guidelines explain how Fashionft researches, writes and updates the buying guides on Fashionft.com. We want you to know exactly how our recommendations are made, so you can decide how much weight to give them.

Our Mission

Fashionft helps shoppers choose fashion accessories with confidence, from handbags, leather goods and luggage to fragrance, watches, eyewear, jewelry and tech accessories. Our goal is to give you clear, honest guidance so you can find the right product for the way you live, work and travel.

We are an independent buying-guide site. We do not sell products, ship orders or handle returns. Our job is to research and explain, so you can make an informed decision.

Who Writes Our Guides

Our guides are written by a team of seven: Fashionft founder Rhett Callaway and six authors. Each of them owns a separate category group, so one person is accountable for every topic we cover:

  • Rhett Callaway (Founder): Handbags & Backpacks
  • Garrett Holloway: Small Leather Goods & Belts
  • Declan Shaw: Fragrance & Beauty Storage
  • Brooks Ellison: Luggage & Travel
  • Reid Sterling: Watches, Eyewear & Men’s Accessories
  • Tanner Whitfield: Jewelry, Bridal & Gift Guides
  • Colby Ashford: Tech, Work & Everyday Carry

Having one owner per category means the same editor builds knowledge over time, follows how products in that space change, and is responsible for keeping those guides accurate. You can read each editor’s bio and full category list on our About Us page.

How We Choose Products

We do not run a testing lab, and not every product we recommend has been tested hands-on by our team. Instead, every guide follows the same research standards:

  • Specifications and construction: We compare materials and build details such as leather grade, stitching, hardware, zippers, wheels, shell material, lens and UV specs, movement type, and metal or plating.
  • Brand reputation: We check each brand’s track record along with its warranty and return terms.
  • Owner feedback: We read verified-owner reviews and long-term owner feedback to spot problems that only show up after months of use.
  • Travel requirements: For luggage, we compare dimensions with published airline size limits. Airline rules vary and change, so always confirm with your carrier before you fly.
  • Value for money: We weigh price against materials, build quality and features instead of simply favoring the cheapest option.
  • Fit for the reader: We identify who each product is best for and who should skip it.

When an editor has personal hands-on experience with a product, the article says so.

What We Look At by Category

Different accessories succeed or fail for different reasons, so each category has its own checklist:

  • Handbags & backpacks: strap comfort, hardware, interior layout and shape retention.
  • Leather goods & belts: leather grade (full-grain, top-grain or bonded), stitching and edge finishing.
  • Luggage & travel: airline size limits, wheels, handles, shell material, weight and capacity.
  • Fragrance: scent family, longevity, projection and concentration, such as eau de toilette (EDT) vs. eau de parfum (EDP).
  • Watches & eyewear: movement type, case size, water resistance, lens coatings and UV protection.
  • Jewelry: metal type, plating, clasps and suitability for sensitive skin.
  • Tech & everyday carry: fit, protection, weather resistance and durability for daily commutes.

How Our Guides Are Structured

Our guides are built to answer three practical questions about each pick:

  • Who it is best for: the shopper, use case or budget the product suits.
  • Who should skip it: the situations where another option is a better fit.
  • The trade-offs: what you gain and what you give up compared with other picks.

We aim to be specific rather than vague. If a bag is roomy but heavy, or a fragrance smells great but fades quickly, we say so.

Our Independence

Brands cannot pay for placement in our rankings, and they cannot approve our content. We do not accept paid placements of any kind in our guides.

Fashionft earns commissions through the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and may join other affiliate programs. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. When you buy through our links, we may earn a commission. Commissions never change the price you pay and never decide which products we rank or in what order. For full details, read our Affiliate Disclosure.

Keeping Guides Up to Date

Products change. Models are discontinued, materials are updated, and prices and availability shift. We review and refresh our guides when products, prices or availability change, and we replace picks that no longer meet our standards.

Each article shows the date it was last updated, so you can see how current the information is. Because retailer prices can change at any time, please check the retailer for the latest price and availability before you buy.

Corrections Policy

We work hard to get the details right, but mistakes can happen. If you spot an error, such as an incorrect specification, outdated information or a broken link, please tell us through our Contact Us page.

We review the reports we receive. When we verify an error, we correct it promptly. If a correction significantly changes a recommendation or a key fact, we note the correction in the article.
